Writers comment:  Another cover of mine.  This was the site I met Bruce at.  He drove in from MSP and we hunted together there, I'd spent the night out in a tent the night before, about 1/4 mile from the base fence.  It had been a long time since I spent the night in South Tampa.  I did really well there.  The story about Bruce and me came out later.  I had good workers permission on this site, and it was a part of a big rough riders dump up into the 1920s.  It had been heavily overgrown, virgin territory, and had been bulldozed because real estate right outside the base went sky high during the recession (Is it over yet???).  Military people were the only people guaranteed a paycheck at that time, or some of the few, so the vultures of real estate really raked them over the coals for modern particle board and stucco condos on land that had to have 6 feet of fill on it just to be usable. The vultures of real estate are legion in Tampa, and many other places in Florida, even though the rest of their artificially inflated market tanked like so much else during the first decade and a half of the 21 century.
